Bar Pisellino and the via carota chefs bring Italian flair to Manhattan, New York |
Featuring flatiron building restaurant history and culinary expertise |
The iconic Flatiron Building is set to welcome a new culinary destination as chefs Rita Sodi and Jody Williams announce plans to open a new location of their acclaimed Bar Pisellino at its base. This marks the duo's first venture outside the West Village, bringing their celebrated Italian café experience to a broader Manhattan audience.
Bar Pisellino, known for its authentic Italian espresso, cocktails, and light bites, has been a staple in the West Village since 2019. The upcoming Flatiron location promises to offer a similar all-day café atmosphere, enhanced by the building's historic charm. A spokesperson for the Flatiron Building highlighted that the new space will feature "soaring ceilings and restored architectural arches," providing a unique dining experience.
The Flatiron Building, completed in 1902 and designed by architect Daniel Burnham, has a rich history that includes housing dining establishments. In its early years, the building's basement was home to the Flat Iron Restaurant and Café, capable of serving 1,500 guests. Later, the space transformed into Taverne Louis, a French restaurant and jazz club that introduced ragtime music to New Yorkers.
The new Bar Pisellino is expected to open in 2027, coinciding with the completion of the Flatiron Building's conversion from office spaces to residential condominiums. Construction for the café is slated to begin this summer. In a statement, Sodi and Williams expressed their excitement: "The Flatiron Building's legacy is such an iconic part of New York, and we are thrilled to be part of it. We cannot wait to bring that spirit to Bar Pisellino."
This expansion reflects the chefs' growing influence in New York's culinary scene, as they continue to blend historical settings with contemporary Italian dining experiences. |
