Trivia Question❓

When it was completed in 1909, the 700 foot clock tower rising over the east side of Madison Square Park briefly held what global title?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Pete's Tavern, nestled in Gramercy Park, stands as New York City’s oldest continuously operating bar, having welcomed patrons since 1864.

With its original rosewood bar and tin ceiling, this historic spot remains a living witness to the city’s evolving story.

Literary legend O. Henry wrote "The Gift of the Magi" in a cozy booth here, while Prohibition saw Pete’s cleverly masquerade as a florist to keep spirits alive.

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:
The world's tallest building. When the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower was completed in 1909, its 700 foot shaft claimed the title of tallest building in the world, holding it until the Woolworth Building surpassed it in 1913. Designed by Napoleon LeBrun & Sons and modeled on the campanile of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, the marble tower still stands over the east side of Madison Square Park at 1 Madison Avenue.
