Community recycling day in Manhattan, New York

Including electronics recycling and textile recycling opportunities

Spring cleaning season is upon us, and Manhattan residents have a prime opportunity to declutter responsibly. On Wednesday, April 15th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Flatiron South Plaza will host a Community Recycling Day, focusing on electronics and textile recycling. This event is a collaborative effort with the Lower East Side Ecology Center, aiming to promote sustainable practices during Earth Month.

Accepted electronic items include both working and non-working computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, cables, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, cell phones, and PDAs. For textiles, the event welcomes clothing, shoes, towels, hats, bags, gloves, linens, bedding, curtains, and any clean, dry, and unsoiled fabric. Additionally, clean plastic bags will be collected in partnership with SoMad®.

This initiative underscores the community's commitment to environmental stewardship. By participating, residents can ensure that their unwanted items are recycled properly, reducing landfill waste and supporting local sustainability efforts. It's a simple yet impactful way to contribute to a greener Manhattan.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Car-Free Earth Day on Saturday, April 25th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the NYC Department of Transportation, this annual event celebrates Earth Day by opening select city streets for walking, biking, and car-free enjoyment. The Flatiron NoMad Partnership will offer family-friendly interactive programming and public art installations at the Flatiron South Plaza. More details will be announced soon.

These events highlight Manhattan's dedication to environmental consciousness and community engagement. Participating not only helps the planet but also strengthens the bonds within our vibrant community.
