Manhattan's culinary landscape has recently embraced the rich and diverse flavors of South Indian cuisine, with a particular focus on Kerala's gastronomic traditions. Among the notable establishments leading this flavorful wave is Kidilum, a restaurant that opened its doors in the Flatiron district on February 27, 2026.

At the helm of Kidilum is Chef Vinu Raveendran, whose vision brings Kerala's coastal and inland culinary traditions to New York City. The menu features dishes like nandu curry, a crab preparation infused with roasted coconut, and vella korma, a white lamb shank curry enriched with burnt garlic oil. These offerings are complemented by traditional accompaniments such as appam and idiyappam. The restaurant's ambiance, with its open kitchen and earthy decor, reflects the warmth and vibrancy of Kerala's culture.

Another establishment making waves is Chatti, located in Midtown West. Inspired by Kerala's traditional toddy shops, Chatti offers an authentic experience with dishes like mutton fry and prawn pouches. The restaurant's design, featuring teak furniture and minimalist murals, transports diners to the heart of Kerala.

In the West Village, Semma has garnered acclaim for its bold representation of South Indian cuisine. Under the guidance of Chef Vijay Kumar, Semma has earned a Michelin star, offering dishes that pay homage to Tamil Nadu's culinary heritage. The restaurant's interior, adorned with traditional artwork and greenery, creates an immersive dining experience.

These establishments, including Kidilum, Chatti, and Semma, are at the forefront of introducing and celebrating Kerala's rich culinary traditions in Manhattan, offering diners an authentic taste of South India.
