Electronics Recycling and Textile Recycling in Manhattan, New York |
Discover opportunities for community recycling day and responsible material disposal |
Spring cleaning season is upon us, and Manhattan residents have a prime opportunity to responsibly dispose of unwanted electronics and textiles.
On Wednesday, April 15th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Flatiron South Plaza will host a Community Recycling Day.
This event, organized in collaboration with the Lower East Side Ecology Center and Councilmember Harvey Epstein, encourages participation in eco-friendly practices during Earth Month.
Accepted electronic items include both working and non-working computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, cables, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, cell phones, and PDAs.
For textiles, the event welcomes clothing, shoes, towels, hats, bags, gloves, linens, bedding, curtains, and any clean, dry, and unsoiled fabric.
Additionally, clean plastic bags and reusable grocery bags will be collected in partnership with SoMad®.
Later in the month, on Saturday, April 25th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the NYC Department of Transportation will host Car-Free Earth Day.
This annual citywide event celebrates Earth Day by opening select city streets for walking, biking, and car-free activities.
In the Flatiron South Plaza, the Flatiron NoMad Partnership will offer family-friendly programming, weather permitting.
Activities include ping-pong with SPIN, games of corn hole and Connect Four, and a showcase of "The Plastic Sea," a public art installation by Venezuelan architect and interdisciplinary artist Frahydel Falczuk.
Additional activations will be present throughout Broadway, featuring contributions from local businesses such as Harry Potter NY and Virgin Hotels NYC.
These events provide Manhattan residents with valuable opportunities to engage in sustainable practices and community activities, reinforcing the city's commitment to environmental responsibility.
